Various Techniques for Pesticide Detection to Improve Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater harvesting requires the detection and removal of pesticides for plant growth. Pesticides are widely used in the agriculture sector as well as the non-agriculture sector for improving the quality of food products and their production yield. Heavy use of pesticides contaminates the biosphere directly and indirectly. Soil gets affected by the kinds of pesticide residues sprayed on plants for yield production. The soil loses its respiration property, which reduces its quality. Sprayed pesticides reach water bodies by surface runoff or other ways and contaminate water, which is then consumed by living organisms. Automatic monitoring of pollutants is essential for human health and air, water, and soil quality. Various methods are present to detect pesticide residues. This paper focuses on on-spot detection of residues with electroanalysis techniques for pesticides in soil and water, which can be communicated with the proposed setup at a remote location automatically. This paper is a summary of different methods used for electrochemical-type detection. Though conventional techniques detect the residues accurately, they have some cons like being costly and chemical-intensive, requiring skilled personnel for lab work, and being time-consuming, etc. Electrochemical sensors will save time, as the material is less costly and requires no skilled person to use it. This paper brings out the types of pesticide detection techniques used and instruments using various sensor-based approaches to help the plant growth environment.
