A steel plate shear wall (SPSW) is an efficient and effective lateral load-resisting system used in buildings and structures to resist the effects of lateral loads such as wind and earthquakes. The SPSW system consists of steel plates that are bolted together to form a vertical panel, which is then anchored to the building’s foundation and framing system. The objective of current research is to conduct structural investigation of SPSW using techniques of FEA. The modelling and FEA simulation is conducted in ANSYS simulation package. The analysis show that mid-section region of SPSW is prone to failure. The deformation is obtained to be maximum at the top left end of SPSW and reduces along the depth.
