Appreciating the importance of affectivity as an a prioriA priori of human beingness necessitates a reconsideration not only of the impact of affectivity on the human being as homo ritualisH, embodied and culture-bound, but also of how affectAffect factors into the phenomenology of liturgical experience. Insights drawn from affectivity science have the potential to enhance the meaningfulness and effectiveness of liturgical rites going forward. Comprehending the impact of affect as a constituent aspect of human beings can indicate a strategy for determining how aspects of the performance of liturgical ritual can be enhanced and exploited in order to motivate, communicate, and inspire more fully empathetic, rational, religious behavior among the faithful.
