Mobile AR for Learning Skeleton Anatomy in Algerian Undergraduates

The field of augmented reality (AR) is currently booming, encompassing various areas including medicine and diagnostic assistance. AR allows the development of three-dimensional virtual environments for human interaction. This work aims to design and implement an AR-based system to well support medical undergraduate students in learning and training skeleton human anatomy, conforming to Algeria’s medical school requirements. Students, through their mobile devices, can experience various parts of the human anatomy, like the clavicle and scapula, in a realistic and engaging way by superimposing 3D anatomical models on the skeleton. With the help of our suggested system, undergraduate students at Algerian medical faculties will be able to manipulate virtual anatomical models, zoom, rotate, and examine them from various angles without having to directly access cadavers or traditional learning resources which are frequently unavailable due to the large number of undergraduate students which in some faculties exceeds a thousand students. Tests and evaluations were conducted to measure the effectiveness and usefulness of our AR learning system on mobile devices.
