Regulation and Self-Governance
摘要
This chapter surveys the historical development of the AI-enabled attention economy and outlines the accompanying threats to human agency. It provides a detailed account of the challenges associated with the regulation of AI and digital media. Governmental regulation is of crucial importance. But it cannot actuate the human capacity for reflective self-direction. Self-governance grounded in digital distancing is required. Neither governmental regulation nor digital distancing should become a partisan issue.
