This chapter explores the principle of lovePrinciple of love as an essential tenet of living out justiceJustice-centered reflective practice in teacher educationTeacher education. We root our conception of loveLove within broader concepts of critical hopeHope and critical care. Ours is an optimistic belief that we as humans can rise to our potential as agents of social change,Agents of social change and simultaneously confront the interpersonaInterpersonal challengesl and structural challengesStructural challenges that can disrupt our sense of connection to others and our ability to assert agencyAgency within the context of teaching and learning. In this chapter we, a team of teacher educatorsTeacher educators, explore loveLove as one dimension of justiceJustice-centered reflective practice (JCRP)Justice-centered reflective practice (JCRP). The JCRP approachJCRP framework emerged from our practitioner research in an independent school teaching residency program and has helped us better conceptualise and mobilise our individual and collective identitiesIndividual and collective identities as teacher educatorsTeacher educators in the context of our highly collaborative program. Through a qualitative analysis, we examine the manifestations of pedagogical loveLove through joyJoy, hopeHope, caringCaring, and criticalityCriticality, and trace its impact on the teaching and learning in our program. Our methods included interviewing alumni, school-based mentors, and instructors in our program as well as conducting a document analysis of our program curricular materials and student work. In exploring loveLove and its relationship to justiceJustice-centered practiceJustice-centered practice, we hopeHope to continue a scholarly conversation among critical teacher educatorsTeacher educators about how to enact liberatory valuesLiberatory values and aspirations in the context of institutions and policy environmentsPolicy environments that often constrain our collective workCollective work toward social changeSocial change.
