However, if Eurocentric knowledgeEurocentric knowledge is still taught through Eurocentric methods, then needed transformational changesTransformational changes to achieve equity will not occur. Fa’a Pasifika has to be weaved through everything the school does. To achieve this the Vā (spacesSpaces) must be protected and remain clear. Vā fealoa’i refers to the spacesSpaces between places and people and the mutual respectRespect and reciprocityReciprocity needed to maintain them. It refers to the tapu nature of these spacesSpaces and the sacredness of the relationships. Vā fealoa’i encompasses the tradition of collective mutual respectCollective mutual respect or ‘ava fatafata’. If the Vā is not clear, Vā fealoa’I will not occur.
