Nacobbus

The genus Nacobbus, commonly referred to as the false root-knot nematode, originates from the American continent and encompasses versatile species that are well suited to a wide range of climatic conditions. These Nacobbus species, whether acting independently or in conjunction with various biotic and abiotic factors, can inflict substantial economic losses on vital food crops, such as potatoes, sugar beets, tomatoes, peppers, and beans. Challenges persist in effectively managing Nacobbus species because of insufficient knowledge about various facets of their life cycle, their survival stages in soil and plant material, the lack of a fast and dependable diagnostic method for detection, and the limited availability of resistant plant genotypes. As chemical nematicides pose significant environmental risks, the exploration of alternative nematicides has gained momentum. In light of this, this review presents findings on the utilization of environmentally friendly treatments to control Nacobbus species. This review delves into biological control methods, including the deployment of diverse organisms, primarily bacteria, fungi, and entomopathogenic nematodes. It also explores other eco-friendly approaches such as metabolites, essential oils, plant extracts, phytohormones, and amendments. These methods can be applied individually or as part of a comprehensive control strategy to mitigate the impact of Nacobbus species.
