Bacteria of the genus Acidovorax are gram-negative bacteria belonging to the class Betaproteobacteria. Members of this genus have diverse habitats, including soil, water, activated solid sludge, and eukaryotic hosts. Phytopathogenic species of Acidovroax are mainly responsible for bacterial leaf strikes, spot diseases, and bacterial fruit blotch diseases. They infect various agriculturally and economically important crops, including the cucurbit family, cereals, and orchids. Seed-borne transmission causes the rapid spread of disease worldwide, which accounts for the economic loss of important crops. Identification of pathogens and the development of various chemical and biological control methods can decrease disease spread.
