However, aberrant signaling cascades can lead to uncontrolled cell growth in cancer or chronic inflammation in autoimmune disorders. This chapter highlights various signaling molecules, their functions, associated pathways, and the specific receptors involved in the interpretation of the types of signals to various cellular responses. There are also several challenges to targeting signaling molecules for therapeutic purposes, including the development of drug resistance, where cancer cells or pathogens adapt to the targeted therapy, rendering it less effective over time. Moreover, another challenge lies in identifying suitable biomarkers to predict patient response to targeted therapies in a more accurate way. We discuss the detailed mechanisms for the molecular interactions of major signaling molecules and their binding receptors that can help in developing targeted therapies for improved patient outcomes. Henceforth, extensive research is a mandate in the drug development field, with a special focus on signaling molecules and receptor interactions.
