In this study, intensity modulation performance evaluation based on Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) under a range of bit rate and transmission range is presented. Fiber dispersion is the major aspect that degrades the effectiveness of the optical communication link for example the transmission range. The performance comparison analysis of the systems results in optical modulation involving the identification of a suitable bit rate per symbol and the corresponding feasible transmission range. The performance is evaluated and compared with the help of eye diagrams. The results demonstrated the efficient optical communication system has the best performance on the 1-bit rate per symbol and 2-bit rate per symbol above diverse distances in the range of 20 km to 200 km standard single-channel optical fiber transmission system.
