The issue of the protection, promotion and management of industrial heritage occupies today a dominant position in the debate on urban regeneration and the development of contemporary cities. In all the countries of the advanced world, with the change in production systems, the phenomenon of “de-industrialisation” has gradually appeared since 1950. As a result of this was the abandonment and desolation of large industrial units, which were located in the centres of cities. One of the consequent problems of this phenomenon is the way of managing and utilising the remaining stock of abandoned industrial facilities, which from being a source of productive activities have become “dead” and degraded sites. The challenge today, at the international level, is how these spaces will retain their character, be architecturally valuable, and become reusable nuclei for the future sustainable development of cities.
