Over the past few decades, the European Union has faced many challenges impacting member states and their citizens. Issues such as demographic and climate change, successive economic and social crises and ensuring recovery from the pandemic's effects require significant initiatives by the EU to address each threat. The primary objective of this research that is part of a broader study is to examine the European Union's policy on education and training through the lens of cohesion policy and to explore the contribution of cohesion policy to the Greek reality. The methodological design utilised qualitative research. In the pilot phase that this study reports, 8 interviews were conducted with eight primary, secondary, tertiary, and vocational education teachers in the region of Attica, Greece. The research findings underscore the pressing and urgent need for European citizens to have immediate access to modern and innovative educational programs, a need that is not just important but urgent. Education and training contribute to individuals’ well-being and are the key to the smooth integration of individuals into employment and the labour market by developing the necessary skills. The European educational systems of member states, vocational education, and lifelong learning, with their potential to enhance and equip citizens with the appropriate skills, offer a hopeful outlook, playing a crucial role in sustainable, economic, and social development oriented towards green and digital transition. There is need for further multicultural research to take place.
