The joint use of the satellite multisensor and in situ data is considered for the analysis and interpretation of the dynamic oceanic and atmospheric phenomena in the southern South China Sea. The satellite data include the Envisat, Sentinel-1 and ALOS-1/-2 SAR images, the Terra and Aqua MODIS visible and infrared images, the sea surface wind, the total atmospheric water vapor and the total cloud liquid water content, and the rain rate retrieved from the AMSR-E/AMSR2 microwave radiometer and scatterometer measurements, and other relevant information. The coastal and oceanic fronts, river plumes, upwellings, internal waves, mesoscale eddies, anthropogenic and natural films, and other phenomena are discussed. The spiral eddies of 5–10 km in size were detected mainly in the coastal zone, and manifestations of oceanic internal waves were observed both in the coastal zone and in the open sea. The spatial variability of the surface wind and atmospheric parameters in tropical cyclones affecting Vietnam was assessed from the scanning microwave radiometer, scatterometer, and SAR measurements.
