Fluxes of suspended particulate matter in the mixing zone of the Mekong River and South China Sea during the summer (1990) and winter (1988) monsoons are estimated. The resulting average long-term lithological structure of the surface layer of bottom sediments and the distribution of 29 elements of various geochemical groups, including organic carbon, are presented in them. Lithobiogeochemical zones with finely dispersed sediments of the submarine Mekong Delta and coastal marine sands have been identified. Results of monitoring in 1988 and 1990 expand the possibilities for understanding the level of the current state of the transboundary Mekong River ecosystem.
