Hypertensive disorders, pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia are the second most common cause of maternal death worldwide. Severe hypertension greatly threatens the mother’s health and life as well as the life of the foetus. Inadequate treatment may lead to maternal intracranial haemorrhage and subsequently to severe neurologic sequelae or even death. Neglecting to control hypertension represents a major failure in the care of women with pre-eclampsia or eclampsia.
