New Challenges and Responsibilities of Port System Authorities for the Sustainable Development of Territories. The West Sicily Sea Authority
摘要
The Port System Strategic Planning Document (DPSS) of the West Sicily Sea Authority outlines a comprehensive framework for the sustainable development of port territories, emphasizing the dual role of ports as vital nodes in transportation networks and integral components of urban environments. The DPSS aims to enhance the economic sustainability of ports while fostering urban regeneration and cultural enrichment. It promotes a vision of “liquid cities”, where ports and cities interact symbiotically, facilitating the flow of goods and people while generating new economic opportunities. The document prioritizes strategies that align with European sustainability goals, including the Green New Deal, and emphasizes the importance of integrating environmental considerations into port operations. Through collaborative efforts with local and regional stakeholders, the DPSS seeks to redefine the city-port relationship, enhance connectivity, and stimulate economic growth, ultimately positioning Western Sicily as a dynamic hub within the Euro-Mediterranean context.
