Recent events such as the pandemic and the wars in Ukraine and Gaza have had a major impact on tourism. However, it is important to underline the flexibility that this industry usually shows for a rapid recovery, as has been the case since the end of the pandemic. Tourism is one of the most important and dynamizing sectors of economy and employment in the European Union. Its projection has a clear cross-cutting nature, as it has an impact on many fields of activity and accounts for 10% of the European Union’s GDP. In recent years, the evolution of tourism has been directly determined by the sustainable development goals, which must be borne in mind when devising public policies on this activity. The most significant goals include the protection of the environment and the historical heritage, and a sustainable impact on economy and society. The European Agenda 2030 for Tourism takes into account these goals and addresses the current challenges facing tourism, such as the development of an adequate legal framework and its governance, the transition to a green and digitally supported tourism and the adaptation to resilience and inclusiveness.
