Virtual Reality and Learning in Children with SEN
摘要
Virtual reality (VR) and its use in education has long been discussed, one of the main challenges is that VR was unaffordable for educational institutes. However VR has evolved since then, the technology is up to date, cheaper and more accessible than it has ever been. This paper presents a study that examines the benefits of VR educational applications in comparison to the traditional learning application. We evaluate the impact of this analysis on a population on students with Special Education Needs (SEN) in learning History. We selected 150 subjects aged between 9 and 10 selected from 12 schools in the province of Caserta. By analyzing the results we have found that the participants in both VR-training and individual training with the educator showed better learning than the starting condition. Furthermore, we highlighted how the group with training in VR achieved better results than the group that had followed a traditional training. With this study, we have highlighted how students are intrinsically motivated when learning takes place using VR, and the result obtained is manifested in terms of higher learning than less motivated students (who followed traditional training).
