Due to the need for a rapid response of supply chains to increasing demand and consumption, better decision-making at companies has become imperative. Steady progress in technology has produced new tools which have facilitated the decision-making process in supply chains. The emergence of Industry 4.0 has resulted in technologies such as simulation, one of its pillars, and Artificial Intelligence. The latter is defined as the ability of a machine to perform the same tasks as those carried out by a human being, thus enabling a more precise and swifter response to problems in many diverse areas. One of these is the management of supply chains. This article aims to analyse the various contributions of artificial intelligence to improving the performance of supply chain dynamics for example in automating tasks and reducing human errors resulting in a better response and more efficient and resilient supply chains. Based on this study, one was able to conclude that, although artificial intelligence is an area that will certainly expand further, it already reveals several positive aspects. These will undoubtedly contribute to the improvement of the performance of supply chains in various sectors, such as engineering, medicine and economics, thus enabling a faster and more accurate response when finding solutions for the problems at hand.
