Analysis of the Power Generation Cost and CO2 Emissions

In this paper is presented an analysis of the power generation cost and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Different random power mixes based on the power supplied by the sources (biomass, coal, gas, hydro, nuclear, solar and wind) are considered in the analysis. This power mix represents the combination of various sources so power is generated, each with a different share, determines the generation cost and the CO2 emissions. Several periods of time are analyzed due to the changes of the power generation cost for each source. Mainly, the last decade is analyzed and a future analysis for the power cost is performed considering the year 2040. The analysis highlights the evolution of the power cost and emissions for the selected years. The power cost of renewable energy sources (RES) influences the results. While several years ago, the power generation cost was higher due to the high cost of RES, nowadays RES have a lower generation cost and the overall cost is lower. Also, the CO2 emissions are lower due to the use of RES.
