Real-Time Energy Quality Issues Detection Related to Distribution Networks that Incorporates Smart Meters

Over the past few years, the trend in adoption of smart meters for electricity measurement has shown an upward shift, both among households and industrial consumers. Due to the cost constraints or inter-connectivity possibilities, most of the meters installed are based on PLC communication (Power Line Communication). This solution provides the possibility of implementing the expected services of an advanced modern metering solution but could daces with new requirements. According to the current adopted regulations in many countries, percentage of remote reading for any implemented smart project must be over 97% with 96 reading intervals in a day, representing the full 15-min index curve over a day course. However, due to the different types of perturbations, such as harmonic and interharmonic pollution or other exploitation problems of the distribution networks, this imposed target is challenging to be reached, thus requiring solutions to timely identify and address these issues. In this work is proposed a new approach based on an algorithm that provides in real time the nodes from the distribution grid that are with responsible for pollution exceeding acceptable limits, in order to intervene for improving the meters reading level. The proposed approach is based on a constrains optimization solving problem, where its solution, based solely on readings data helps electricity distribution operators to identify smart metering remote reading issues and thus maintaining the operation at the imposed readings quality requirements.
