Among the complex social values strongly marked by a cultural, discursive and semantic kinetics, the “normality” of everyday life occupies a privileged place and this for several reasons. Firstly, because the “normality” of life in a cultural and linguistic community is the bearer of complex conceptual and semantic configurations mobilizing “breaks of indifference” (Lavelle, 1950) that are both subjective and intersubjective in all the semio-spheres of individual and social experience. Secondly, because this complexity is part of the meaning of words to say it carries several thick concepts (Hare, 1997; Putnam, 2002; Williams, 1985), which we interpret as thick modal values. Finally, this complex value is included among the strong specificities of each language and culture. This article dedicated to the memory of our colleague and friend, Bert Peeters, is an attempt to implement a theoretical and methodological alliance of NSM (Goddard, 2011; Goddard & Wierzbicka, 2014; Peeters, 2006; Wierzbicka, 1991) and SPA (Semantics of Argumentative Possibilities) (Galatanu, 2018) in the analysis of complex social values in English, French and Romanian.
