This study investigated the antibacterial activity of ethanol extracts from Psidium guajava (guava) and Ocimum gratissmum (scent leaf) against wound isolates. A total of 38 Gram-Negative wound isolates were obtained and their identities were confirmed using standard biochemical test methods. The results showed that Escherichia coli was the most prevalent among the test isolates, while Shigella sp. was the least occurring. Using the agar well diffusion method guava extract showed higher activity against test isolates when compared to the scent leaf extract. The study revealed a concentration-dependent effect, with 200 mg/mL showing significant inhibition against 84% of the tested isolates, compared to 39.5% at 25 mg/mL. These findings suggest that the guava ethanolic extract is a promising natural antibacterial agent for wound treatment, warranting further investigation as a potential alternative to conventional antibiotics.
