Isolated Power Electronic Converters

This chapter discusses a foundational set of galvanically isolated power converter topologies that facilitate DC-DC or DC-AC or AC-DC power conversion through pulse width modulation (PWM) or pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control, applicable to various clean energy-driven power electronics. Achieving a higher efficiency fundamentally breaks down the design problem into smaller problems, such as expanding the soft-switching region, minimizing frequency-dependent semiconductor losses, and minimizing device RMS currents in a wide range of circuit topologies with various operational characteristics. This chapter addresses the fundamental challenges in various isolated topologies in meeting ambitious efficiency and power density goals, as well as the role of optimization techniques in addressing these issues.
