New technologies are only useful if they have the support of society. But in many countries, conspiracy theories have slowed the adoption of valuable technologies and even created regulatory blockages based on unfounded fears. We anticipated that RNA technologies would face these challenges and therefore undertook research to understand how the American public perceived RNA and the best way to communicate it. Our research combined literature review, focus groups, and quantitative testing to understand the best ways to present RNA technologies. We found that standard industry discussion of RNA is counter-productive. By contrast, explanations that stress the role of scientists as problem-solvers receive significantly more public support.

摘要
