The Impact of COVID-19 on the Financial Health of Lithuanian Tourism Sector
摘要
The global pandemic Covid-19, which started at the end of 2019, has had a definite impact on the economies of every country. The tourism sector has been particularly affected by the pandemic crisis. In Lithuania, the quarantine imposed at the beginning of 2020 and the resulting severe restrictions on the activities of tourism businesses have had an impact on the financial health of businesses in this sector. The aim of this article is to investigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Lithuanian tourism companies’ financial health. The study is based on data from 2018 to 2022. In order to investigate the impact of the pandemic crisis on the financial health of Lithuanian tourism companies, an analysis of profitability, solvency and turnover ratios of companies engaged in travel agency and tour operator activities is conducted. The study shows that the Covid-19 pandemic had the greatest negative impact on profitability and turnover indicators. The quarantine restrictions imposed on the activities of the tourism sector have led to a significant drop in revenues and losses for companies in this sector. This led to a deterioration in the financial health of these enterprises. Although the financial health of tourism enterprises improved after the pandemic, by the end of 2022 most of the financial indicators reflecting financial health were worse than before the Covid-19 pandemic. This suggests that the pandemic had a negative and significant impact on the financial health of Lithuanian tourism businesses.
