The Yanomami Crisis, Ethno-Ecocide Practices and the 2030 Agenda: Challenges to Territorialize the SDGs in the Amazon
摘要
The violence systematically perpetuated against Indigenous peoples and their lands, mark the 2030 Agenda territorialization context in Brazil and other Amazonian countries. The Indigenous Peoples rights includes public policies related to territory, health, education, and to traditional cultures. Indigenous languages and cosmologies have a profound impact on countries’ ability to achieve Sustainable Development Goals, in particular SDGs 1/2/3/5/13/15. The Brazilian Indigenist policy has been historically violent against Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities and their cosmopraxes. The indigenist policy implemented between 2019 and 2022 negatively captured international community’s attention, for its practices and discourses’ serious impacts. This chapter looks at the relation between necropolicies, that caused thousands of deaths and deprived lives of dignity, and its connection to the 2030 Agenda territorialization in Brazil. The Yanomami Case (YC), evidenced in 2023, is presented as a study case for understanding the dynamics that connect ethno-ecocidal policies with illegal mining and invasion of in Indigenous Lands (ILs), and the weakening of inspection/regulatory bodies that protect Indigenous rights, their territories, and the environment.
