Assessing Operation of Mobile Banking Applications that Support Customers to Access Banking Services Remotely

Mobile banking applications are programs that are created by banks to help their customers’ access banking services remotely. This study assesses operation of mobile banking applications that enable customers to access banking services from their devices successfully. Additionally, this study discusses major weaknesses that affect customers while accessing banking services remotely. This study employs a systematic literature review approach. Findings from this study established that mobile banking applications provide a secure connection between the client application and the bank server, followed by customer authentication before accessing banking services remotely. The outcome to this study is a defined set of best practices that can be adopted by customers to access banking services remotely and securely. Notably, this study enlightens bank customers about the existing threat landscape when using mobile banking applications and provides solutions on how best mobile banking applications can be securely utilized to conduct banking services remotely.
