A significant number of the portion discussed in this chapter is drawn from 60 years of experience in managing municipal solid waste and 40 years of experience in compostingComposting materials. The main reasons for depending on experience are to ensure that the literature is more credible and is able to close the gaps. By the 1960s, publications on solid waste management, and particularly composting, were rare and mostly found in obscure periodicals and project reports. Ultimately, a large share of scarcity was traced to professional fragmentation.
