This research examines effects of different forms of occupational stress experienced by prison officers and investigates the coping strategies employed by these officers within a prison clinic setting. This study is a cross sectional quantitative study using descriptive and diagnostic analytics. With a target population of 40 prison officers, a questionnaire, survey method was used for two weeks. The responses received were analysed using the Chi-Square Test. The analysis revealed that headache is the prominent physiological symptoms under stress. Surprisingly, almost 83% of the participants either never consume alcohol, or they only drink rarely or sometimes under stress. Only 16.67% participants reported increase in smoking consumption or alcohol under stress. However, no participant reported the use of drugs under stressful conditions. Furthermore, to cope with the prevailing stressful situations, reliance on spiritual beliefs, getting emotional support at work, and engaging in different activities for diverting the mind from stressful situation are the most used strategies.
