Unavoidable Deaths in India

This chapter presents the findings of the empirical data on the trends ofDeathunavoidable unavoidable deathsUnavoidable death in India before the COVID-19 pandemic. The timeline for this data review is from 2007 to 2018. The timeline was selected based on data availability and in consultation with the Vital Statistics Division. The sources ofDeathunavoidable unavoidable deaths include four reports published by theIndiaGovernment of Government of India’s Office of the Registrar GeneralRegistrar general and Census Commissioner of IndiaCensus commissioner of india (ORGI) and two reports by the National Crime Records BureauNational Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). These data are vital statistics for India and provide up-to-date information onUnavoidable death unavoidable deathsDeathunavoidable. By doing so, this study also uses the broad categories ofDeathcause of cause of death, categories of fatalities and categories of crimes advocated by ORGI and NCRB in these reports. These broad categories then act as a reference point for this study to understand and capture avoidableDeathavoidable disaster deaths from the impact of COVID-19 and the economic lockdownLockdowneconomic lockdown in India in the first phase.
