The influence of higher levels of blood pressure on adverse atherosclerotic cardiovascular and kidney outcomes has been appreciated for decades. The opportunity for earlier diagnosis and treatment is essential for providing opportunity for primary prevention of adverse clinical outcomes. The influence of diabetes, chronic kidney disease, obesity, and renin-secreting tumors on the management of blood pressure will be discussed in this chapter. Although, these co-morbid conditions will not alter blood pressure targets, which need to be carefully individualized, they will influence decisions about the choice of pharmacotherapy, not only to control blood pressure but also to reduce the risk of cardiorenal adverse clinical events.
