Unveiling the Prospects of Regenerative Agriculture in Promoting Soil-C Stocks, Food Security, and Climate Change Mollification and Resilience

The agricultural industry has been identified as an essential sector of the countries’ economic boom and peoples’ well-being. It is pathetic to observe that the conventional systems of producing food are rapidly being threatened by climate change. The peasant farmers and their farmlands in the rural areas are more vulnerable to the challenges associated with climate change because of poor and unsustainable adaptive measures. This study involved the different soil and crop management approaches referred to as regenerative agriculture (RA) and its potential to enhance soil-C stocks, food security, and resilience to climate change under integrated agricultural systems (IAS). RA is a nature-based agriculture which serves as an alternative to modern industrial agriculture or traditional agricultural system. It prioritizes conserving and restoring the soil/land by adopting special practices to local ecosystems and climates. RA under the IAS enables increase in crop yield, enhance soil organic matter and carbon, as well as establish a system that is resilient to external stresses induced by environmental change such as climate change. In addition, at a global scale, this paper analyzed relevant literature from Web of Science (WOS-ISI) on the link between RA, carbon sequestrations, food security, and climate change in IAS. Further, the study identified the close connection between the existing literature and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The results from the study established that RA is a crucial means for agricultural diversification toward increasing food security, and sustainable energy production for the rapidly growing population.
