What if geography changed the world? The questions posed by geography concern all citizens, as natural, political and social phenomena cannot be excluded. Geography is a discipline that primarily studies empirical reality, and it is characterized by the fact that it is more concerned with the concretes of everyday life, the concrete geographical spaceGeographical space, than other scientific disciplines. Geography is the discipline responsible for studying particular areas of the Earth's surface and providing knowledge about them, among other things in the form of descriptions and maps. It is supposed to satisfy human curiosity by answering questions about what and where things are, why certain phenomena and processes occur where they do and not elsewhere. Based on a study of the literature, the concept of geography as a synthesis of knowledge from different disciplines is still very evocative for 21st-century geographers (McDougall 2003; Pitman in Geoforum 36:2, 2005; Lau and Pasquini in Geoforum 39, 2008; Demeritt in Geoforum 40, 2009). In the past, geography with its discoveries served countries in their expansion, so now it can be useful in the work of building a world whose unity will be based on the preservation of diversity, on the understanding of difference and on respect for the achievements of other cultures (Wilczyński in Ideowe źródła i tożsamość geografii. Wydawnictwo Naukowe Uniwersytetu Pedagogicznego, 2011). From the study of landforms and climate in the 1970s, it has moved on to spatial planning, understanding the strategies of multinationals or the phenomena of spatial segregation. Geography seems to be useful for understanding the world by stimulating the desire to travel, enabling an investment in the complexity of today's world where civic engagement is necessary, a shift from lived space to perceived space and then to designed space using geoinformation technologies, especially geographic information systems (GIS).
