This chapter explores the integration of citizen science (CS) mobile applications and their platforms focused on biodiversity into school curricula, emphasizing how biodiversity intersects with subjects within the natural sciences. The topic of biodiversity is now much better integrated into the new educational program, which began to be tested as part of the curricular reform under the Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Slovak Republic funded by the European Union. One of the changes is that environmental education transitioned from the cross-cutting theme to environmental literacy, which is incorporated directly into natural science subjects. This has brought more space for teaching the topic of biodiversity and its protection, which requires more students’ involvement. CS offers opportunities for engaging students in scientific research and data collection, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to real-world conservation efforts. By leveraging mobile apps and online platforms, students can participate in activities such as species identification, habitat monitoring, and climate change tracking, making the learning experience more engaging and the teaching process more effective. Our objective is to harness the potential of school environments, by involving students and putting them in the role of citizen scientists for gathering various biodiversity-related data across Slovakia through CS programs. The results bring a selection of 17 apps and their overlap with biodiversity topics from the curriculum, that are applicable for the third cycle in primary schools.
