The movement to create alternative platform cooperatives in response to the externalities of profit-seeking platform firms has been growing in recent years. Nonetheless, it remains questionable whether these platform cooperatives can thrive. This study aims to enhance our understanding of the viability of platform worker cooperatives by offering hypotheses on the emergence and feasibility of platform worker cooperatives, which derive from a comparative analysis of four cases of platform cooperatives in the ride-hailing and delivery service sectors and an analysis of relevant literature. The results of our study are expected to contribute to a better understanding of the characteristics of cooperative ownership, governance, methods of capital financing, and sources of value creation when the nature of worker cooperatives is combined with the characteristics of a digital platform business.

摘要
