Finding Your Path
摘要
We hope that this volume has given you a taste of the wide variety of topics mathematicians study, the varied paths they take, and how you might chart your own path through graduate school and beyond. In this last chapter, we, the editors, share our career paths and particularly how we came to our graduate research specialties and how our research interests have evolved over time. Karen’s biography highlights the importance of trying things out along the way. In Emilie’s biography, you will read how her path (or “meander” as she calls it) led to career lessons about the importance of communication and the ability to reinvent yourself. Erin shows by example that finding something you are passionate about leads to a fulfilling career. And finally, Abra provides a detailed walkthrough of her journey from undergraduate student to department chair together with advice from that lived experience.
