The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
摘要
In this article, we will introduce the reader to a type of research called the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL), in which teachers study, analyze, and publicly share information about the teaching and learning of their own students. Examples of SoTL studies will be presented, including a summary of the author’s work in Linear Algebra and Calculus courses. Although SoTL differs from traditional mathematical research, content knowledge of mathematics is necessary for the planning of content delivery, for recognizing problems in student learning of that content, and for conjecturing solutions to those problems. In this article, a knowledge of standard introductory mathematics courses is assumed, particularly those of linear algebra, calculus, and some introductory statistics.
