3D Printing in Additive Manufacturing in Stereolithography: Coconut Shell Powder Additive

This study investigates the use of coconut shell powderCoconut shell powder as an additive in photopolymerizable acrylic resins used in 3D printing3D printing via stereolithography (SLAStereolithography (SLA)). The primary objective is to evaluate the influence of this additive on the mechanical propertiesMechanical property of the resin, focusing on impactImpact resistance, compression, flexural strengthFlexural strength, tensile strength, and hardness. Resin samples containing 1% processed and unprocessed coconut shell powderCoconut shell powder were compared to a control sample without additives. The results indicate that the addition of processed coconut powder enhances the mechanical propertiesMechanical property of the resin compared to both unprocessed coconut powder and the control, particularly in terms of impactImpact resistance and hardness. Microstructural analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that the processed fibers act as physical barriers, delaying crack propagation and thereby increasing the material’s durability.
