Commercial aircraft ventilation systems are extremely important to ensure the comfort and health of passengers on board throughout the flight. In this study, the open source field operation and manipulation (OpenFOAM) software with a low Reynolds number (LRN) turbulence model was used to evaluate the velocity distribution and age of air in a generic scaled-down empty aircraft cabin with different inlet sizes. Validation was performed with available experimental data from the literature. The validation showed good agreement between simulated and experimental results. Changing the inlet size had an insignificant effect on the modification of the in-cabin flow structure, but smaller inlets improved the local mean air age.
