Concussion
摘要
Concussion is classified as a mild traumatic brain injury. However, despite this nomenclature it is a significant health concern that has complex and inadequately understood pathology. Concussions are prevalent across all ages and walks of life, with a variety of causes ranging from sports and recreational activities to workplace accidents and falls among the elderly. This chapter explores the multifaceted nature of concussions addressing the complexities associated with its diagnosis and management. The chapter also explores the significant recent progress made in developing return-to-activity protocols for athletes returning to sport and for children returning to school, stressing the necessity of adopting these protocols in broader contexts, such as the workplace. An argument is made for the need for a conservative and personalised approach in treatment following evidence-based protocols for return to activity that allow the brain to heal itself.
