In this study, we compared a commercial and an open-source code for the numerical simulationNumerical simulation of a multiphase flowMultiphase flow involving water, oil, and air in a physical model of a ladle furnaceLadle furnace used in secondary steel refining. The simulation results were validated against photographs of the oil aperture in the experiments. The findings revealed that while the overall fluid dynamic structure is similar between the two software tools, there are differences in the oil aperture structure and the percentage of the exposed liquid area between the simulations.
