India is studded with spectacular geoheritage sites and have every potential to be developed as geoparks. However, geoconservation and geoparks are still lesser known terms particularly for policy makers and leaders. There a large number of geoheritage sites of global significance are in dilapidated condition and there is no policy and legislation to conserve these sites. The result is that there is no Geopark in India where as it has 42 World Heritage Sites (but not on geoheritage basis). In this paper we have provided current status of geoheritage conservation in India and future scope to develop geoparks along with summary of the papers presented in this volume.
