The chapter focusses on strategies of collective remembering and forgetting in the conflict between Israel and Palestine. It analyzes in particular the narratives of the Holocaust, the founding of the state of Israel and the Nakba and discusses the blind spots concerning the historical experience of the respective opponents. The chapter argues that empathy in terms of a more inclusive understanding and acknowledgment of each other’s history might be a key toward opening up a more peaceful common future.
