Conclusions and the Future of Surfing
摘要
In this book, we have explored the multifaceted nature of surfing from its indigenous roots to the mass media corporate machine of today. We have seen the huge economic, health, and social benefits of surfing and its global impact. The sport is however not static and is evolving driven by changes in technology. At the extreme end of wave riding, people are now conquering the largest breaks on the planet, in part driven by advances in fin and board design as well as techniques such as jet ski tow-in. Technology is also driving a revolution in surf parks, with breaks now being created inland to challenge the experienced surfer and provide a controlled environment for beginners and those less able. Surfing has been, and will continue to be, a sport centered on nature with the power to change society for the better.
