Source Process and Parameters for the Major Seismic Events in the East Mediterranean-Red Sea Region

The East Mediterranean-Red Sea region stands as a complex interplay of geological and historical dynamics. Shaped by tectonic activity and millennia of human civilization, this area hosts a myriad of seismic events with significant implications for its inhabitants and global stakeholders. This chapter delves into the geological underpinnings of the region, exploring its tectonic framework, seismic hazards, and geodynamic evolution. By analyzing the interaction of multiple tectonic plates and fault systems, such as the Dead Sea Transform Fault (DSTF), North Anatolian Fault (NAF), and East Anatolian Fault (EAF), the study highlights the significant seismic hazards that impact urban planning and disaster management.
