The landscape of work has undergone a profound transformation. The cornerstone of this transformation lies in the development and adoption of cutting-edge technologies. This qualitative study from Austria aims to fill a significant knowledge gap by answering the research question: Who are the smart home officers and what do they want? Smart home officers are smart connectors whose desire is to make private and business life easier and more efficient, and automation brings the enhancements to a productive and sustainable level. Respondents understand the smart home as a connected home. All the respondents agreed to see the smart home concept as a successful combination of home and office. The benefits can be broken up into these coexistent classes: Security & Safety, Energy Efficiency, Wellness and Comfort, Convenience and Productivity. Three cons are Costs, Net Dependency and Hacking. The transformative journey of e-work, fuelled by modern technology and the smart home, has reshaped the future of the workplace environment, presenting a new paradigm where flexibility, productivity and connectivity converge.
