Investigating Contextual Factors in Technology-Based Solutions Designed to Support Health and Fitness Routines for Older Adults: A Systematic Review
摘要
Technology-based solutions can potentially support older adults in managing their health and fitness routines. However, their adoption among this demographic is low. In this systematic review, we explore the research landscape in this domain by investigating 78 publications published over the past decade from two prominent databases. Our primary objective is to understand how these studies integrate essential contextual factors, particularly cultural and socio-economic influences, in their design and development phases. Our analysis identifies various contextual factors, with social factors emerging as a prominent influence. Additionally, our analysis reveals disparities in research across countries with varying levels of economic development. Based on these findings, our recommendations include promoting research initiatives in economically disadvantaged areas, considering older adults’ diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and incorporating relevant contextual factors in the design of technology solutions, long-term assessments to gauge the sustained impact of these solutions on older adults.
