The primary objective of this chapter is to determine the causes and consequences of herder-farmer conflicts in order to propose solutions for a lasting peace between communities. Therefore, the research question is to know what are the reasons that push the herdsmen to extend their presence on the Togolese territory beyond the legal period of transhumance. This was a fieldwork in three regions affected by these conflicts, using structured and semi-structured in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions. The major conclusions drawn from this study are twofold: A poor distribution of resources between herdsmen and farmers as well as an inadequacy of the responses provided by the public authorities. The chapter recommends a series of public policy reforms as well as greater involvement of civil society in the search for peace.

摘要
